Welcome to the BBBlog

Welcome all to a new blog about Black books. What do I mean by "Black" books? Well, any titles by authors of African descent or about people of African descent. I'll primarily keep tabs on major fiction and nonfiction releases as well as those lucky few that catch the media's eye and become trendsetters. You're welcome to comment - only by email at this point, but commenting will be enabled soon. Send links and comments (favorable and snide) to your humble editor.

Here are some places to check out with recent Black book news.
Africana.com started a new feature a few months ago that lists notable releases each month. It's worth checking out with a memoir by Lisa Price, the force behind Carol's Daughter and the much talked about book by J.L. King, the new prince of the "down low."

Africana also reviews King's book, On the Down Low: A Journey Into the Lives of "Straight" Black Men Who Sleep With Men. His book tour, according to his site, begins on May 11, so you'll likely hear lots more from him in the next few weeks. He's schedule to appear in Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Chicago and Hyattsville, Maryland this month. See the Random House site for details.

Tonya Lewis Lee, wife of Spike Lee, will have a novel out this summer. Gotham Diaries from Hyperion is coauthored with Crystal McCrary Anthony and is being pushed social satire about the very richest African Americans.
